People often ask me why I still sit in front of a blank canvas after all these years. The truth? Painting is a beautifully exhausting contradiction. It demands everything from you—pulling you through a chaotic spin of excitement, deep frustration, vulnerability, and sudden, quiet satisfaction. It can feel like a maddening game. Yet, every single time I set my brush down and step back to look at what just happened, I feel this overwhelming sense of gratitude. Even the frustrating moments mean I am awake, feeling, and doing exactly what I was put here to do: creating. The artist's path isn't a straight line, and it certainly isn't always easy, but it’s the only path for me. I’m staying the course

I’m an American oil painter living in Bergerac, France, with my husband Rob, and our beloved cat, Indy.

Hi, I’m Kelly

Why do I paint?

Join Me in France

For me, painting and travel go hand in hand. They both force us to slow down, look closer, and appreciate the world in a deeper way. Now, I am opening up my world to help you do the same.

Over the next few seasons, my big focus is creating unforgettable, immersive experiences for women who love travel, beauty, and the joy of learning:

  • Intimate Home Studio Workshops: I am hosting small-group, hands-on still life workshops right here in my French home.

  • The French Chateau Art Retreat (July 2027): A curated, luxury creative escape where we will stay in a stunning historic château, savor incredible local food, explore the countryside, and master the fundamentals of still life oil painting together.

Whether you are here to learn online through Kelly Garcia Paints or dreaming of packing your bags for a creative adventure in France, I am so glad you've found your way to my corner of the world. Let’s paint your next chapter together.

Me at four years old. I share this because I want to remind you: that creative spark you felt as a child never truly leaves you. It’s always waiting for you to pick up the brush again.
